For those who don't get SunFlash, this may be of interest. I'm just the
messenger, etc.
[ Unfortunately, for reasons I cannot fathom, it ONLY supports Synchronous ]
[ links over either an HSI/S SBus serial card or an MCP (and you need SunLink ]
[ MCP if you have the latter). Why it does not support Asynchronous and/or ]
[ the CPU board serial ports, I have no idea. Maybe they're afraid of going ]
[ up against MorningStar (-: - Greg ]

Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation(TM) [SMCC(TM)] announces SunLink(TM)
PPP 1.0. SunLink PPP 1.0 expands the Sun(R) Wide Area Networking offerings to
include an industry standard point-to-point product. While adhering to
the Internet PPP standard, SunLink PPP provides cost effective
communication between Local Area Networks and remote sites at speeds up
to 2.048 Mbps.
SunLink PPP can interface to other Sun systems running SunLink PPP as
well as interoperate with other vendor's systems running the Internet
Standard Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). PPP is also able to act as a
routing gateway between Local Area Networks. This product supports
synchronous communication only.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
---------------------
o Transparent TCP/IP connectivity Users can perform such
over point-to-point networks functions as rlogin,
telnet NFS(R) or run X
applications over a
standard PPP interface.
o Cost-effective transfer of data With SunLink HSI/S,
supporting speeds up to 2.048 Mbps users have access
to data speeds beyond
standard async speeds.
o Supports dynamic, high level User may dynamically
routing protocols route IP packets via
a PPP link.
o Based on Internet standard Users on Sun systems
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) (RFC 1171) can communicate with
other vendor equipment
that supports RFC 1171.
o Supports all Sun RS-449 and Ease of use, support of
synchronous serial port options other vendor equipment
through standards.
o Acts as a routing gateway User can route data
between LANs packets via PPP and a
Sun workstation. User
doesn't have to invest
in a separate router.
o Supports Manually Dialed, Leased and SunLink PPP can support
T1 subchannel transmission facilities whatever transmission
facilities the user
currently has in place.
o Supports load sharing between Sun systems Key differentiator from
other Point-to-Point
products currently
available.
