SCO PPP (TCP/IP v1.2) problems
#386

Hello!

I'd appreciate it very much, if someone who has successfully setup
SCO's PPP (from SCO TCP/IP v1.2.0i) would give me a few hints about
it. I'm trying to configure it to operate over dialup serial links,
but it won't work any more after handling the first incoming call
successfully ... So I have to manually kill and restart the pppd daemon
everytime!

From what I can tell (reading /usr/adm/syslog entries), ppp (nppp's
login shell) receives a sighup once the dialin line disconnects, but
doesn't properly detach the tty. The next time nppp logs in, 'w' doesn't
report '-ppp' as nppp's shell and 'ps' reports that 'ppp' doesn't have
a controlling tty.

Any help is welcome, from sample Systems, Devices and ppphosts files
to excerpts from /usr/adm/syslog files indicating what a successful
PPP connection should be reporting once the user hangs up.

I think I should add that uucp, cu and dialin user logins all work
fine, so the Systems and Devices files shouldn't have fundamental
errors.

Best regards,

Dimitris

PS: Sofar I've used various PPP packages, for Unix, PCs and Macs, and
it all worked quite well and was easy to setup. It'd be reassuring to
know if SCO's PPP can operate with any of those (namely: MorningStar's
PPP for SonOS, MacPPP 1.1.3, KA9Q etc), otherwise I'll be looking for
a terminal server.

What are you trying to connect with on the other end? I remember
hearing somewhere, that one of the releases of SCO had problems
where as PPP was based on old standards and wouldn't talk with
any other PPP device in the real world (unless of course, they
also were running this older release of PPP). I would suggest you
make sure you have all the updates to your SCO PPP..
