Neither CMIP nor CMOT postings belong here. CMIP clearly belongs in comp.protocols.iso since it is an ISO protocol. This newsgroup is only for SNMP postings. The newsgroup comp.protocols.iso is very low in volume so there is plenty of bandwidth for any and all CMIP discussions to live there. There is no point in creating comp.protocols.iso.cmip until there is so much traffic that comp.protocols.iso is noisy. Note that neither CMOT nor CMIP are derived from SNMP. However, all three do use ASN.1 encoding of objects and many MIBs can be manipulated by all three protocols. SNMP is very widely implemented in everything from toasters, to coke machines, to hosts, to routers, to whatever. Neither CMIP nor CMOT is widely used outside of Europe and SNMP is more widely used in Europe than CMIP and CMOT combined.
