I've tried running the snmp agents (snmp, snmp-midII and sun) with snm-1.1 and I can't seem to get any response from the requested system. I'm not even trying on a remote system, my request is for the same host I'm ruuning on! For example, if I use the "Set request" option from the host's glyph and select "Get" from the request window I get "(no values retrieved)" for ALL possible combinations of agent-group. Same thing occurs when I run from the prompt say: snm_cmd -a snmp-mibII -g system -n sysDescr -s, I get "no response from system". According to the user manual, this means the snmp agent is not running, but I know it's running. What about the snmp.hosts file? Should there be any special settings for my host? Aren't the default values good enough? There is not much information available on what the "read-community" and "write-community" field can or should be and what they entail... Any hint would be greatly appriciated!
