Have mystery probs, need good troubleshooting reference

I'm having problems setting up a TCP/IP "network" between my
SPARC station and a PC with a 3Com ethernet adapter. The weird
thing is that I had everything up and running yesterday, and
suddenly, mysteriously, today I can't seem to get it to work.
I'm using Trumpet Winsock under Windows 3.11. I've got the
packet driver for the 3Com Etherlink III card loaded into
memory as it should be, along with the winpkt "virtual packet
driver." I'm having the basically the same problem on two
different PCs, the first of which I tried to set up today,
and the second of which I set up successfully yesterday.
(I never connect both of them at once to the SPARC, in
case your wondering) Here's a trace from trumpet winsock on the
first one (trying to telnet):

If anyone out there either knows of some good troubleshooting guides
for diagnosing these things that they could direct me to, or has some
insight into what my problem might be based on this admittedly vague
description, I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks

Here the PC (Trumnpet) tried to find the Sparc's Ethernet address by
transmitting a broadcast (ARP=Address Resolution Protocol) basically
asking: "who has IP address 192.0.0.1". There was no asnwer. This suggest
that there is a problem soemwher here:
- between Trumpet and the packet driver (check that vector number $72)
- between the packet driver and the 3com card (what did the packet driver
report during loeading?
- between the card and the wire (are you using the 'internal' (=BNC)
transceiver or the AUI (15-pin) interface with an external transceiver?
- between the wire and the SPARC - well, eh, is it plugged in? If BNC, is
the coax terminated both sides? etc. Could be a problem in the Sun as,
wel...

Good luck!
