There are a few more Japanese resesarch labs in the Princeton, New
Jersey area (a.k.a "Video Valley" ), namely:
Hitachi
Toshiba
Both of these labs have hired away a bunch of people from Sarnoff
labs and elsewhere. These two and Matsushita (also in Burlington, New
Jersey), as well as the Korean company Samsung are focusing on
comsumer video development, particularly HDTV standards. Of my
original RCA group of about 20 in 1981 more then half now work for one
of these companies! Its the research engineering equivalent of
Baseball Free Agency. I'm just waiting for my agent to find the right
insentive clause for me...
