[Pls respond by email. -- Rick] I am wondering if anyone can me what the status of Japanese OCR is. I understand that there are palmtops that are supposed to read handwritten Japanese characters. Are these accurate? Does this mean that there is a substantial amount of accurate OCR software available that could be used to convert fax files, gif files, etc into Japanese text? It is not uncommon for fax cards sold in the U.S. to include some sort of OCR software that recognizes English. Do fax cards sold in Japan come bundled with Japanese OCR software, or will they be in the future? Thanks much for any pointers or info. -- scott /* We're the United States Government, we */ trent@cs.utexas.edu /* don't do that kind of thing! -- Sneakers */
