First Call for Participants
HURO '96
First International Symposium on Humanoid Robots
October 30-31, 1996
Waseda University International Conference Center, Tokyo, Japan
--------------------------------------------------------
Sponsored by: Waseda University
Co-sponsored by: Advanced Research Center for Science and
Engineering, Waseda University
Local arrangement:Humanoid Project, Advanced Research Center for Science
and Engineering, Waseda University
Objectives:
Waseda University has been one of the leading
research sites on the anthropomorphic robot since the
late Prof. Ichiro Kato and his colleagues started the
WABOT Projects and produced the first biped walking
robot, WABOT-1 and the musician robot WABOT-2 in 1973
and 1984 respectively. In 1992, Prof. Kato founded the
new project Humanoid.
Robots are now widely used in the manufacture
industries. Its application will be extended to many
different areas. Especially, it is expected that a
personal-use robot works for the assistance of housework
and aids for the patients in the coming aged society and
plays an important role to keep the amenity of life and
human environment in the next century. A human type
robot, Humanoid, to work together with human partners in
our living environment, should share the same working
space and take the common thinking and behavior patterns
with human being. The robot will integrate information
from sensors and show the coordinated actions to realize
high level communication with human using multimedia
such as speech, facial expression and body motion.
This symposium will provide an information
exchanging and a discussion space for the researchers on
human type robot, human machine interaction and the
related fields. It will be helpful to the progress of
these research areas.
