Ram with Micro-C on Miniboard?

I'm using the Miniboard with Micro-C. It works great... except:
How does one use any of the 68HC11's internal RAM from within
   a Micro-C routine?
Every variation I've tried results in variables allocated directly
with the program in EEPROM.
Should I give up and just use Assembly?
