I am looking to fill two graduate research assistantships (for Ph.D.) with the robotics group at Simon Fraser University. One of the positions starts from May '94 and the other from September '94. Duties include developing and implementing algorithms for a variety of planning and manipulation tasks in robotics and manufacturing. Some examples of the research domains are gross motion planning, manipulation planning, fine manipulation (grasping), planning with uncertainty. A Master's degree in a related discipline (CS, EE or ME) is a prerequisite. A combined background in computational geometry, algorithms and mechanics is ideal. The robotics group has excellent research facilities and provides a congenial, flexible and exciting research environment. The facilities include a network of SUN Sparcstations, an IRIS Indigo machine, a laser range scanner, a PUMA 560 and a planar direct drive arm. The research interests of faculty span computational aspects of robotics, robot planning, sensing, mechanical design and control in robotics. The group has close collaboration with local industry. Send your CV with two reference letters (by regular post or e-mail) to Dr. Kamal Kant Gupta, School of Engineering Sciences, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, B.C.
