> The why does the USA have one of the highest violent crime rates in the > developed world to go along with the highest rate of private ownership > of lethal weapons? No matter how many "gun laws" are on the books, the results will be the same. Only the criminals will use guns (and the law abiding sportsmen will just have more of their rights taken away). Now, imagine that you could "wave a magic wand" and make every gun in America vanish. That same night, people would be *BUILDING* their own firearms in their basements. Within days, the bad guys would be armed again. Sure, I hate to hear about a tragedy like Colombine or some kid finds his daddy's gun and kills his friend by accident. But, "laws" are not the answer. Think about cars. Supposedly, speed limits decrease the number of highway deaths. So, why not make the limits lower? Surely, (as the argument goes) "if it saves one life - it's worth it". Do you want to go around driving at 10 MPH? It would save lives, for sure. Should we ban airlines the first time one plane crashes and 50 people get killed? After all, banning flying would, indeed "save lives". America's hair-trigger response to every problem is "ban it". This doesn't work. Law piled on top of law doesn't work. Prohibition didn't work. When will people wake up and REALIZE THIS???? (geez.. talk about off-topic). Roger -- ################################################# # Roger A.
