No, i'm saying that people uses less efficient applications and
OS , producing less useful work.
Same goes with SUV's. Uses more gas and has less passenger and luggage
space.
But i assume that yur preferences for both of the above
is done with emotional reasons rather then facts and figures
about their respective performance.

You mention two different things, a word-mungler and an
Operating System. Yes, i can imagen a more efficient OS then XP.In
fact it's difficult not to :-)
And " MS Office" is a family, word-mungler, OH-cartoons and a
spreadsheet.
Depends on work that should be done. For sending e-mail 'pine' is one.
Spreadsheets are done with a number of alternatives, gnumeric is
one of them.
