If one NAT box can handle 10000 phones, an operator with 100 million customers (e.g in Asia) needs ten thousand NAT boxes. A whole building full of them... Not surprisingly, 3GPP standardised IPv6 for the phones. In a few years the majority of terminals connected to the Internet will run IPv6. NAT is not a solution, it is a problem. With NAT boxes you can't have peer-to-peer connections. Only the client-server model works. Each time you want a direct connection, you have to use a bridging server provided by your ISP, at a fee. And that server may become a bottleneck and a single point of failure. The perfect target for DoS. -- Lassi
