The problem with both methods listed below is what happens in an NFS
environment where you may be logging into any one of 10 or 20 or 1000 different
machines with different and possibly meaningful motd files on them.
Adding a ".`hostname`" to the stored file name in the scripts would sure help.

find /etc/motd -newer ~/.hushlogin.`hostname` -exec more {} \; -a -exec touch\
   ~/.hushlogin.`hostname` \;
