Graham.. If you were to read a little more carefully, you would see.. that once the password was CHANGED to posting would then occur. Posting of the OLD password. Still, I think this is kinda pointless. But if you think about it.. just write a program to fill in the spot of the dictionary to generate passwds. So when your passwd cracker looks for a word, dont let it go to a dictionary, have it jump to a subroutine that will generate a password. If you concentrate all your computer's cpu time/resources to this task you can do some hefty passwd cracking. Even words that aren't in the dictionary. Most people stick to characters.. Upper/Lower.. and possibly some numbers. Anyways, some of you will get the idea.. For 52 possible chracters in 6 slots (avg password length) runs to about 1.977060966 * 10^10 possibilities. On a slow computer doing about 250 tries/sec will come to roughly 915 days. Now if you chunk all cpu on that task, or multiple computers banging on different areas of your wordless then you will (obviously) divide the task and have a much quicker final result. Etc. etc.. etc.. etc. Just Another Crazy Though > jherndo@eis.calstate.edu
