I was discussing security and old programs the other day and the question was raised concerning searching for logic bombs, trojan horses (and other malicious code) in old programs. In particular if there were automated tools (like virus checkers) to help in this. This is a topic that I did not remember having seen much about. My initial thoughts were that utilities could be written to look for certain activities in the program (for example calls to date/time) which could then be investigated to see if they were legitimate or related to the triggering malicious code. Any suggestions as to good places to look for material on this?
