The Dell I use has a password option in the BIOS setup that I can
use. It can be bypassed by setting the EPWD jumper on the mother-
board, but I have a cable lock and have locked the case lock, so you
will need a cutting torch or shears to pop the case.
My Macintosh uses a program that encrypts everything on the hard
disk with DES. On bootup, the driver asks for the key, and the driver
takes care of the (de)crypting.
Sane, simple, and secure.
I have basically tried all security setups for Mac, and
none is as safe and secure as the Hard Disk Toolkit set to
encrypt all on your HD. Most of the Mac security progs will
trash your HD because they dork with your FAT and alloc info.
I just wish the Mac had a BIOS password option, but Macs will
never be secure machines unless there is a rewrite of the OS.
