Subject: Simulations of Strategic War

I am familiar with some of the simulations that were written in the late
60's/70's such as SIR NEM (written for ACDA) and AEM (written for DOD).
I also have access to a simpler model (also written in FORTRAN) that
was used by for ACDA work in 1984/5. Is there anyone out there who is
working on such simulations for use in seminars on U.S. defense policy?
(I have sources for SIR NEM 12 and AEM 9, both in CDC FORTRAN IV. The
newer simulation was written by Bill Baugh of Oregon. I also have
a dataset for both U.S. and Soviet strategic forces between 1954 and 1979
that I am now updating; it is of sufficient complexity that counterforce
strikes can be modeled using AEM).

Subject: Re: PhD programs in Simulation
There is a very strong program at Colorado State University; its emphasis
is in interdisciplinary biologically related simulations. (It is the
group from CSU that was involved in the grasslands biome program during
the biological equivalent to the International Geophysical Year project.)
Because the program is interdisciplinary, there is no single department which
runs it; a great deal of the work is done through the Natural Resource
Ecology Laboratory, and most of the faculty who are involved with the program
have joint appointments with NREL.

In response to the request for Ph.D. programs in simulation, here
is a rough overview of our simulation classes and related research
efforts.
