We are looking
for a simulation system with a good graphical modeleditor. I have the
task to collect information about the features of existing graphical
modeleditors within simulationsystems. Perhaps you work with such a
graphical modeleditor. In this case please send me some features of
the editor, your experience with this editor and the name and address
of the producer of the simulationsystem which includes the graphical
modeleditor. If you have the possibility to grap pictures from the
screen please send me some from the grapical modeleditor by e-mail.
(You can convert the gif-picture-files with the UNIX-commands uuencode
or shar into e-mail format.) If you don't use such a graphical
modeleditor but you know anybody where use it please send my e-mail to
him. Thank's a lot for all.
Yours sincerely,

Subject: Please help me out
I have a big problem and nobody in Europe can help me out. My
R & D topic is Optics in Massively Parallel Computers.
For that, special Opto-Electronic Integrated Circuits have to
be designed. What I am looking for is a simulation program
what can do a 3-dimensional analysis of for instance 3-dimensional
diffusion aspects in a bipolar process.
A student of me Peter Nikkel has to do some fundamental research
in which he has to simulate the impacts of a stream of photons
on all kind of different light sensitive regions in either a p-n
or p-i-n diode. For that it is also necessary to understand the
influences of different geographies (topologies) of the light
sensitive diode
This brief description is to assist you in finding a suitable
program or helping me out with an address of people who are doing
this kind of work.
I would like to have a public domain solution while we are a 'poor'
University but I am also willing to pay a reasonable amount of money.
Contact Ralph if you want to know a little bit about my background.
We did check all institutes in the Netherlands whether they could
help us but none of them was able to support us.
Thanking you for all your efforts,

I don't have a direct access to internet to get FTP. But, it is possible

in public domain. How do I get it?
Thanks a lot.

The problem with using SPICE to model the start-up behavior of an oscillator
is similar to that of developing limit cycles in nonlinear control systems.
Generally the oscillator is mathematically stable with no oscillations.
However once something perturbs the system, oscillations begin and rise in
amplitude until nonlinearities in the circuit limit the amplitude and stable
oscillations are obtained.
The simplest way I have found with SPICE to provide the initial perturbation
is to place an initial condition on one of the components in the oscillator's
resonant circuit, i.e. a voltage on a capacitor or a current in an inductor.
Use a small value such that the actual start-up may be simulated. In the
real world, random electrical noise in the components is often enough to
initiate the oscillations. However I have seen real oscillator circuits that
had marginal excess gain that would not start reliably without some kind of
"push" such as cycling the power supply voltage. This too may be modelled
in SPICE; for example, to model a Wein Bridge oscillator, I had to apply a
small pulse to the resonant circuit to start it oscillating.

As far as I know, CSMP is now called ACSL (Advanced Continuous Simulation
Language). It is made by Mitchell and Gauthier Associates Inc.,
200 Baker Avenue, Concord MA 01742-2100 (508)369-5115.
In Europe it is marketed by Rapid Data, Crescent House, Crescent Road,
Worthing, West Sussex BN11 5RW, England. 0903 202819 (phone).

First Release of Simulation Kit Ships
SANDY, Utah, October 26, 1992--Doberman Systems today announced the
first release of the Simulation Kit, the first collection of objects
specifically developed for continuous system modeling and simulation
on the NeXT computer. Coupled with the NeXTSTEP application
development environment, the Simulation Kit provides the ideal
context for developing and analyzing object-oriented simulations.
Unlike traditional methods, where the model to be simulated is
programmed procedurally from derived equations, the object-oriented
approach is implemented directly from a block diagram representation
of the system.
Both academic and commercial users will find the Simulation Kit to
be a powerful yet easy-to-use tool for modeling, analyzing, and
teaching linear and nonlinear continuous systems, numerical
integration, and the numerical solution of differential equations.
Typical application areas are numerical analysis, engineering
systems (e.g. mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, and chemical),
and control systems.
The Simulation Kit is composed of seven primary Objective-C classes:
ActiveProcess, Clock, Composite, Expression, Process, Signal, and
Simulation. Simulations are modeled by connecting processes
together with signals. More complex subsystems can be grouped
together into composite processes, which may then be manipulated and
used as a single process. In addition to the seven core classes are
15 examples of commonly-used clocks and processes, as well as four
example simulations, which all include full documentation and source
code. These may be used as guides for the development of new
clocks, processes, and simulations.
A typical use of the Simulation Kit can be illustrated by simulating
the motion of an automobile. The car's acceleration is determined
by the pressure applied to the accelerator by the driver, the slope
of the road (which depends on the location of the car), and the
car's drag (which increases with the vehicle's speed). It is known
that the car's location and speed may be obtained by successively
integrating its acceleration. From this information, a block
diagram composed of integrator, gain, and summer blocks can be
easily assembled. These process blocks and the signals that connect
them are implemented by Simulation Kit objects which are organized
in the same fashion as the block diagram. Information such as the
car's position, velocity, and acceleration may then be output as the
car *moves: through its virtual environment. This approach to
modeling provides greater insight and intuition into the behavior of
the system and allows simple and rapid modification of the
simulation.
The Simulation Kit employs several advanced features that are
unavailable in other simulation packages. Multiple clocks allow
simulations to contain *fast: and *slow: subsystems. Process
prioritization permits fine control over the execution of the
simulation for techniques such as cascaded integrations.
The Simulation Kit is available now from Doberman Systems for US$399
(US$99 academic). The product is distributed on a single
NeXT-compatible floppy disk and consists of the object library,
indexed header files, full on-line documentation, and
fully-documented example source code. Technical support is
available by telephone and electronic mail directly from Doberman
Systems. A demonstration version of the Simulation Kit is available
from major Internet archives.
Doberman Systems was launched in 1992 to develop hardware and
software solutions for the NeXT series of professional workstations.
The firm is committed to providing the highest quality products and
services for NeXT users and developers worldwide.
Doberman Systems, the Doberman logo, and Simulation Kit are

3rd Conference on
Computer Generated Forces and Behavior Representation
March 17-19, 1993
Orlando, Florida
Computer simulation is becoming increasingly important for training people
to work in complex environments. In domains where other intelligent entities
play an important role, the simulator must model the behavior of these
entities. One such domain is battlefield simulation; to train a unit
commander effectively, the simulator must be populated with autonomous
agents representing friendly and opposing forces. These forces are called
Computer Generated Forces (CGF).
Under the sponsorship of the US Army Simulation, Training, and
Instrumentation Command, the Institute for Simulation and Training is
hosting the third in a series of conferences on computer generated forces
and behavior representation. These conferences serve as a focal point for
the exchange of research ideas in the area of intelligent agent design for
simulation. Contributions are solicited in the areas of autonomous agent
design, behavior representation, human behavior modeling, and applications.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Intelligent agent architecture
Integrated architectures
Real-time systems
Distributed and parallel implementations
Proposed standard CGF architectures
Behavior description/representation
Agent programming languages
Expert systems
Object oriented programming
Planning and problem solving
Learning agents
Coordination and cooperation among multiple agents
Spatial reasoning
Route planning
Planning viewpoints
Modeling human behavior
Validating behavior realism
Representation of specific behavior doctrines
Operator interfaces for semi-autonomous agents
Applications
CGF Air traffic control
Driving simulation Emergency management
