I dont know of the correct newsgroup to post this, hence I am
cross-posting.
Is there any public domain state machine design and optimization tool
(with simulation if possible). Any pointers to this will be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I will be teaching a course in systems simulation in our graduate
program this coming spring semester. I would like to use SIMSCRIPT for
the class projects, but we don't have it. I've tried to contact CACI
in Los Angeles (213/310 -476-6511 is someone elses phone number now),
and in Washington D.C. (202-628-1743 is never answered). Can anyone
give me some leads for SIMSCRIPT II.5 for the Vax (or Suns if that's
an option)?
I'm also looking for reasonable texts. The course is part of a
masters' in software engineering program. It should have a little of
everything. An old book I like is Gordon's _System Simulation_ (Pren-Hall),
but I understand it's not available anymore. Suggestions here will be
welcome also.
Thanks for any info --

Who can help ???
At the Winter Simulation Conference `90 P. Reiher introduced the
Time Warp Operating System TWOS.
Where is this OS available? He mentioned that it is available via the
NASA Cosmic distribution mechanism.
Has anyone any experience with this software distributor (adress, email ...).
Who use TWOS or other programs distributed by NASA Cosmic.

* TP SIMKIT V.1. A TURBO PASCAL SIMULATION TOOLKIT *
*************************************************************
TP SIMKIT is a Turbo Pascal 6.0 object-oriented library which
can effectively help you to implement simulation models of
dynamic dicrete event-systems running on your PC compatible
machine.
Using a well defined and already implemented object hierarchy
you can build your own simulation models in the object-
oriented and modular fashion. Any discrete event-driven
simulation technique can easily be implemented. The concept of
event routines (e.g. used in SIMSCRIPT and GASP languages)
combined with capabilities of object-oriented programming are
used to specify the structure and behaviour a model.
TP SIMKIT provides:
- generic models (objects) for modelling discrete and
queuing systems,
- discrete, continuous, and user defined random numbers
generators,
- base objects for implementing events, transactions,
and entities,
- built-in entities like queues (FIFO, LIFO, RAND, PRIO),
devices, and storages,
- mathematical entities like vectors and distribution tables,
- flexible re-definition of all aspects of the model behaviour
using object-oriented techniques (inheritance, polymorfism),
- an easy way to implement your own simulation algorithm
as a new method of the base object inheriting all features
already implemented in this object,
TP SIMKIT supports:
- building your own simulation models object hierarchy,
- automatic gatherig of statistical data,
- automatic report generation,
- integrating your simulation model with Turbo Vision library,
- building large scale models in a modular and OO fashion.
You need to be familiar with programming in Turbo Pascal 6.0 and
have at least basic knowledge of object-oriented programming in
this language.
TP SIMKIT can help you during the development and implementation
of simulation models of any dynamic discrete systems. Here is a
nonexhaustive list of examples of discrete systems which can
be modelled using TP SIMKIT:
- performance evaluation of communication systems,
- optimization and evaluation of traffic systems,
- modelling and evaluation of queuing systems,
- study and prediction in business and economy,
- modelling of production systems and factories,
- projects life-time prediction and optimization,
- performance evaluation of computer and local area networks,
- modelling of computer hardware,
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardware/Software requirements:
Computer: PC XT/AT, PS-2
Memory: min. 512 Kb
Disk space: min. 1 MB
Oper.system: MS DOS 3.3 and higher
Software: Turbo Pascal 6.0
------------------------------------------------------------------
TP SIMKIT is a very convenient tool box enabling you to develop
your model in a short time. Our experience confirms that this
simulation tool box seems to be an ideal and easily understand-
able modelling tool for education. I'm willing to answer to any
your question. Please feel free to contact and ask me via
e-mail.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IMACS Symposium on Mathematical Modeling
Technical University of Vienna, Austria
February 2-4, 1994
For this symposium I am collaborating in the organization of a session) on
"Qualitative and Neural Networks in Modeling".
Qualitative is considered in the large sense of dealing with non
quantitative models, using techniques including the approach of symbolic
manipulation that has its roots in qualitative physics but is not limited
to it. So, for example, the approach of fuzzy sets to deal with modeling
and control of physical systems (using only a qualitative knowledge on the
system) is welcome. On the same sense works using neural networks to deal
with qualitative descriptions are also welcome.
Those interested in participating in this section are invited to submit
proposals of presentation. For submissions the dead lines are:
As soon as possible: Title of contribution and authors
January 31, 1993: Abstract, maximum 1000 works (2 pages) and figures.
By March 15, 1993: Notification of the result of selection based on the
abstracts, with comments of reviewers.
After this first selection camera ready forms will be mailed to the authors
of accepted works with more detailed instructions.
Submissions can be send by e-mail to
jbarreto@nefy.ucl.ac.be
or by ordinary mail to:
J. Barreto
Laboratory of Neurophysiology (NEFY)
Faculty of Medicine, UCL
Av. Hippocrate 54
1200 Brussels - BELGIUM
Remark: If you have access to a Macintosh environment you can send all the
material using 'binex' of 'Eudora' with 'Attach document option', so I can
have the document with the figures printed. Otherwise, if you have figures
use ordinary mail. I can only process easily ASCII text files.

NOTE: An updated calendar will be sent to you every month or so,
in which past events will be deleted, and new events added.
Thus, there will be a good bit of repetition of listed events
that have not yet taken place. But don't let that make you think
that an updated calendar is one you have seen before. Better
check; something of interest might have been added! John
