I have a number of complicated text files in eqn/troff-ms that I would like to convert to eq/eqn. I know rofftext will handle the troff part, but what about the eqn stuff. Further is it possible to have a filter that allows one to work in either form and convert back and forth. Please respond directly. R. Siegel

Indeed, rofftext does nothing useful with eqn pieces. Sigh. It should be straightforward to extend it to handle .EQ and the dits that come after. If there is enough demand, we may be able to do so; or perhaps someone else would be able to take a crack at it. In the other direction, eprint -t will convert eq insets into eqn. One could work in ez and then convert to troff for further editing. (The troff is a bit raw. It uses the -matk macros, which are not as high level as -ms or -me.) Fred Hansen
