Thanks to Matthew Hughes (MN Supercomputer Institute), Jeff Hanson (NASA Lewis),
and apologies to Paul Morin (MN Supercomputer Institute) for not being very
clear.

I had asked about what software may exist for Khoros to display regularly
gridded data (say global fields on a 1 degree grid spacing) on geographical
map projections (mercator, cylindrical, etc.) and be able to overlay
the lat/lon lines (say every 10 degrees) and coastlines. Besides NCAR graphics,
I was pointed to SGI Explorer modules written by Jim Phillips. These modules
are available from the anonymous FTP at

swedishchef.lerc.nasa.gov [139.88.54.33]

down in the explorer and cartog subdirectories.

This looks great, but we need to integrate these modules into Khoros (we can't
use the commercial package SGI Explorer). The question then becomes how
similar are SGI Explorer and Khoros? Anyone have a feel for this?

Also, the Khoros user survey lists several applications where people are
using Khoros with AVHRR data and overlaying lat/lon grids and coastlines.
If any of you are reading this news, how are you doing it?

Thanks again to all who responded. This news group is very helpful.

If we port the SGI Explorer Cartog functions to Khoros, I will post news.

John Bates, NOAA Climate Lab.
