Recently I noticed this posting:

 writes:

Some time after that, I slowly got the bright idea to save the responses
and to volunteer to make up a simple, nothing-special FAQ. Nothing
authoritative or comprehensive, but at least something that would help
when these inquiries come up again.

My internet site does not go very far back with these postings. So the
entries listed below are all I was able to find.

Several questions for regular readers of this group:

 - is there already somebody maintaining an FAQ generally for
comp.software.licensing? If so, who and where?

 - can somebody tell me (I can telnet and FTP) where, if anywhere, the
past postings to comp.software.licensing are archived?

 - I have never before volunteered to write an FAQ. I expect lots of
etiquette has evolved about who does it, what they do, when they do it,
etc. etc. Can anyone guide me in this?

Here, below, is the beginnings of an FAQ.

All the above functionality and a lot more is available
with the Elan License Manager. Elan License Manager has as one
of its major claims to fame in that it is very easy for end-users
to install. For details, contact:

You might also try NetLS, which is the OSF standard. Available from:

        Hudson, MA 07149

Another license management package is NetLS from Hewlett Packard. It has
been accepted as a standard by OSF. It is currently available on multiple
platforms, and offers the license types mentioned by an earlier poster. It
also offers management reports that help MIS depts. understand who is using
software licenses and when, etc.
