Hello
I am having a number of problems compiling tcsh 6.01 with gcc 2.1 on a
SparcStation running SunOS 4.1.1. I have tracked down the problem with free that
many reported but now I get:

Warning: no access to tty (Inappropriate ioctl for device).
Thus no job control in this shell.

whenever I try to run. I have previously compiled with cc with no problems.
The patch for the free problem is:

*** tc.os.c.orig Tue Apr 7 13:16:34 1992
--- tc.os.c Tue Apr 7 16:44:31 1992

+ if (membot == NULL) /* protect against early morecore calls */
        membot = (ptr_t) sbrk(0);

Yes, this has been fixed for 6.02. Thanks for reporting it.
[My fix is sligthly different, but that one also does the trick]

About the ioctl problem: This has been the most common question lately,
so it finally made it in tcsh's FAQ.

It is not a bug with tcsh, but a bug with the gcc installation. In particular
<sys/ioctl.h> is not ansi compliant in some operating systems. There are
three choices:

1. run fixincludes and complete the gcc installation.
2. compile with gcc -traditional
3. compile with cc.

Tcsh-6.02 will come out *really soon* now. We are frantically testing it. :-)
