In response to recent discussion regarding the strange release notes
on various releases of my hebcal program (distributed on
soc.culture.jewish and comp.sources.misc):

I didn't know that this would cause such a fuss, and I really don't
feel that strongly about the issue.  What the moderator posts to
comp.sources.misc is his or her problem, but from now on, future
releases of hebcal will simply have an email address on them for bug
reports.

Why:
  1) The original motivation for the email response line in my
     distribution was so that I could track the usage of hebcal and 
     tailor future versions accordingly.  I see now that there was no
     need to limit distribution based on that.

  2) I get too much email these days because of it.

  3) The whole issue of DISTRIBU-WARE and shareware w/ regards to
  hebcal is moot, (if I understand the situation correctly) since I
  didn't put in the ol' (C) at the top of my code in version 1.0, so
  the whole thing is in the public domain anyway.  

In short, I give up.  Distribute it all you want, just keep my name on
it.   The thrust of this article will appear in the next release of
hebcal.

PS  These issues are obviously important to the internet community, so
perhaps there ought to be a FAQ dealing with the issues of copyright,
distribution, the legal strength of shareware licenses etc., if there
isn't one already.
