Some time ago, I posted a request for information on SDL tools.
I got five responses: Heine Christensen, Ove Faergemand, Joost Katoen,
Gerard Cohen and Gregor v. Bochmann, thanks.

Here is my summary, the lines starting with 3 dashes (---) are added by
myself.

Greetings

Willem Levelt.

Hi

Regarding SDL tools:
We have an SDL tool developed at TFL (Telecommunications
Research Laboratory, Denmark) that is called the static semantics
analyzer. It parses the specification in textual form and performs
some semantical analysis. It is available from anders@tfl.dk at the
price of 3500 danish kroner.

Regards,

Heine Christensen email: heine@tfl.dk

----------------------------------

- GEODE (French	firm Verilog, working on SUN3, Apollo, HP9000, VAX/VMS)
features: graphical editor, translator between SDL-TR en SDL-GR, semantical
checker, simple report generators. Working on code generation (C).
Licence per workstation. Based on SDL'88.

- SDL Design Tool (SDT) (Telelogic Europe S.A., Swedisch Telecom, VAX, SUN,
Apollo, IBM PC/AT). features: graphical editor, report generator, based on
SDL'84. Code generators to ADA and C should be developed by now (?).
    Licence per workstation (70.000 Skr).

--- A new version is available now that supports (part of?) SDL'92

- ETRI SDL environment (Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute,
Korea) (see a.o. J. Hong et. al.-SDL-oriented graphical environment, third
SDL forum 1987). Only for SUNs. Graphical editor, semantic analyzers,
transformers (SDl --> CHILL, SDL --> Numerical Petri Nets). Translation
of data types seems to be a problem. Licence not to expensive, but
    service???

- CSELT tool (SDL'84), report generator, but no simulator.

- Siemens tool. Features: graphical editor, semantic checkers, simulator, SDL GR
<--> SDL TR, SDL --> C & SDL --> CHILL, test generator. Apollo and OS/2.

- Danish SDL Tool (Danish telephone Administrations and Jutland Telephone)
Features: graphical editor, GR <--> TR, se,mantoc analyzer, report generator,
    pretty printer. Not commercially available.

Groetjes,
    Joost Katoen.

There is an SDL tool in the CONCERTO software factory.
It includes an editor (graphical and textual formats),
a static controller, and an archive system allowing the mapping
of SDL systems into files and referencing of SDL structures
down to states.
If you need more information, please ask.
Regards.

We are in the process of developing a tool which translates much of
SDL into Estelle.
