Stroustrup is a member of the ANSI X3J16 committee. Because of who
he is and what he has done, and because he is smart and also a good guy,
his opinion carries considerable weight.

But he doesn't have veto power (nobody does), and he alone cannot
force an issue (nor can anyone else). He also doesn't always
get his way (nor does anyone else).

The joint committe works by consensus, and we try not to bring anything
to a vote unless it is clear that it has overwhelming support. Formal
votes are typically unanimous. A standard that doesn't have broad support
will be ignored. We want a standard that will be supported and used.
