can STL be ported to Cfront?

Does anyone have thoughts on how difficult it would be to port STL to compile on a Cfront compiler? I have taken a class on STL, so I'm very familiar with the difficulty even the most compilers have with it. However, I can't think of anything fundamental about STL which would preclude porting it to Cfront. The lack of default template parameters is the only deficiency I know which would affect the STL API, and I could live with that. - Bob -- Robert Lister [ comp.std.c++ is moderated. It's sufficiently hard that it's worth paying the $149 to buy a commercial version that has already been ported. There's lots of little features in STL that won't compile on various Cfront-based compilers (e.g., nested typedefs in template classes, use of qualified types nested in template parameters, overloading of function templates etc etc). Also, STL requires instantiation-on-demand which causes problems with some of the inline template functions in the source (on some Cfront-based compilers). --- [ comp.std.c++ is moderated. Such a port has been done by ObjectSpace. Their claim is that it works with
Cfront 3.0 (or is it only 3.0.2?)
From the STL FAQ:
C. STL<ToolKit>:ObjectSpace at 1-800-OBJECT-1
most C++ compilers
code is well documented
comes with tutorial with over 200 elementary
examples that have just been placed in the public
domain available via anonymous ftp from
butler.hpl.hp.com at
/stl/examples.Z or .zip for PC
These examples are a good place to start.
They have taken Alex's public-domain copy from butler.hpl and modified it
extensively for portability to cfront, efficiency and some ease-of-use
improvements..
