Is it true that C++ has already been approved for use on Mission
Critical applications within the DoD? If so when did this happen? If
not, does anybody the current status of the approval process?

[Moderator's note: please make sure that replies are on-topic for this
group. Discussion about whether or not C++ is a good language for
mission-critical applications probably doesn't belong here. mha.]

According to the law, C++ cannot be used by the DoD.
Approved languages are Ada, C, Cobol, Fortran, Pascal and a few
others. The complete list can be found in
http://sw-eng.falls-church.va.us/AdaIC/pol-hist/policy/3405-1.txt.

The Dod accepts only standardized languages, and wants its new
software to be written in Ada, other approved languages are kept for
maintenance only, so the DoD is very unlikely to ever use C++.
