For example, as recently discussed on this newsgroup, the ANSI C standard provides a function rename() for renaming files, but not all systems have that capability. A conforming implementation can indicate that it doesn't support that feature by defining rename() to always return -1 and setting errno to some appropriate value such as ENOSYS. -- Fergus Henderson | Designing grand concepts is fun; fjh@cs.mu.oz.au | finding nitty little bugs is just work. http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/~fjh | -- Brooks, in "The Mythical Man-Month".
