: Sample Partial Mission Directions
: 1. C grows up to be like C++
: 2. C settles down as a great high-level assembly language
: 3. C becomes ideal companion language for other high-level languages
: 4. C requires very little change and just needs a few tweaks
I would add:
5. C continues to be a non-complex flexible general purpose language.
C is a very flexible language and is applicable to writing good
(both reliable and efficient) solutions to a wide variety of programing
problems and can be used to write portable code. It has few basic
restrictions that make it difficult to perform certain functions.
However it is a compact language without complicated features (except
perhaps in some of the library). This makes it possible for programers
to master it and write good code, and high quality implementations
to be provided.
[This is in the spirit of 4 but emphasises that C is a general purpose
language.]
