I emailed halasz with the same point but have yet to get a response. I
gave a partial joke to lighten the point. I now have the full version
which I heard attributed to George Bernard Shaw - the noted author in
English and an Irishman!

How should you pronounce "ghoti"?
"fish"! "gh" as in "enough"; "o" as in "women"; "ti" as in "sanction".

I had forgotten the "o" example.
