In general, membership on an ANSI standards committee is open to any
interested party; members aren't "chosen". A corporate membership on a
committee costs $150/year and allows one representative and one alternate
to be specified (additional alternates cost extra). There is also an
"individual" membership rate, for people representing themselves rather
than a company (and I think it's possible to get it waived under certain
circumstances), and an "observer" membership, which allows attendance and
receipt of committee mailings, but not voting rights. In order to vote in
the committee, a member must be paid up and have attended at least two of
the previous three committee meetings.
