(I'm resposting this, since it seems nothing I posted last weekend 
went anywhere. Apologies if you see this twice.)

This might look like the cross-posting from the hell, but this
issue was discussed slightly a couple of months ago, in a
range of newsgroups I only vague remember. Anyway, I thought
people in the listed groups could be interested. Please feel
free to forward whereever you want.

There was a notice in Svenska Dagbladet, a major Swedish newspaper,
which listed the country codes for all new states which have
been created of former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, except
Bosnia-Hercegovina and Macedonia. Here are the codes:

Armenia      - AM
Azerbaijan   - AZ
Whiterussia  - BY     (Belarus, huh?)
Georgia      - GE
Kazakhstan   - KZ
Kyrgyzstan   - KG
Moldova      - MD
Russia       - RU
Tajikistan   - TJ
Turkmenistan - TM
Ukraine      - UA
Uzbekistan   - UZ
Estonia      - EE     (Eesti)
Latvia       - LV
Lithuania    - LT
Croatia      - HR     (Hrvatska)
Slovenia     - SI     (Is SL occupied? Ah, Sierra Leone?)

Note: the next day the published a "correction" which swapped the
codes for Latvia and Lithuania, to a few days later retract that
correction. Looks like there is good possibilities for future
confusion...

By the way, will will be the first of the codes above to appear
on Usenet as a domain? Oh, I have already seen .ua, but which
will be number two? Will we be saved .su soon?
