-- Just found this group. Glad I did too. I am currently working for a company localizing a product into over 10 different language versions (mainly European, but I know translation is being done for Asia and Hebrew too). So who is reading this group ?? Any students doing I18N/L10N related projects out there ?? Is there a FAQ relevant to I18N, or as asked in the previous article, a FAQ on ISO 10646 ? I spent last night reading a tutorial doc. for ISA. Interesting points incuded the fact that one asian country (I forget which) has 5 time periods during the day denoted by different letters (like our am and pm). They are of varying lengths from 7hrs to 1hr (at noon). I worked on the development phase of the basic international version of the product that I am now localizing. The dev of the biv was done in England. It has become obvious that the needs of the localization phase were not thought of as a high priority.(ie "lets get the biv shipped and hope the llv's will just appear a few months later") I think if the development had been done in a non-english native speaking country, [and I dont mean the U.S. :^)] then the biv would be a far more localizable product. The prototyping of the localized versions was done here in Germany but there is big difference between localizing a biv in parallel to its development and localizing the biv into 10 languages in parallel during a 3 month period. Anyone with similar experiences? Anu. -- The views expressed in this article are my own. -- Haben Sie ein Einrdder? Ja? ;^) Have you a unicycle? Yes? *************************************************************************** Richard (Anutonski) Johnson....E-mail: johnson@petrus.enet.dec.com Digital Equipment GmbH...........Tel: +49 (0)6103 383583 Robert-Bosch-Stra_e 5,...........Fax: +49 (0)6103 383523 6072 Dreieich/Sprendlingen,...Computer Science Undergraduate Germany...................................University of Portsmouth, England. ***************************************************************************
