For what it's worth, here is my two pen'orth.

What I have done is simply taken items from other correspondents, and added
my own thoughts/experiences. I hope they are useful.

I tried colour ages ago and had my fingers burned with an Integrex Series
II.
Problems with that were :-
      1. No local agents - so had to send printer away.
      2. Blocked heads.
      3. Early breakdown of various optical heads.
      4. In the end I decided on the BJC610 for reasons summarised below,
taking points from other contributors.
      5. I bought mine from Computer Concepts - who happen to be local and
who bundled their turbodrivers at reduced cost.
(Incidentally, I think that their Turbodrivers will not work with Acorn
PrintManager 1.53. They need 1.28 unless things have changed).
      6. I will probably get the Integrex back on stream as a standby.

Running out of yellow. Yes, this happened first. 4 separate colours were one
feature that attracted me to this printer.

Blocked heads ? The BJC610 seems to be highly intelligent. Had lots of
problems with the Integrex - to be fair a much older model or possibly the
wrong ink (both these may apply to BJC 600 users), but have had no problem
with BJC610. Blue printing OK after 4 - 5weeks of no use. Appears to go
through complex start up exercises, including self-cleaning, remembering
what it has done. There are, in addition, several user controlled head
cleaning routines.

Re-bi-directional printer ports. I am not sure if my A5000 has one (!!), but
one contributor suggests A5000's do. Anyway, I have had no problems.

Yes. Important to power down - i.e. switch off the BJC610, correctly.

One contributor wrote :-
Even genuine cartridges can cause problems if they have been in store for a
while. All current colour cartridges should have a batch number with a
leading digit of not less than three, this number can be seen (just with
good eye-sight and favourable lighting conditions) embossed on the tank
bottom under the transparent window. Black ink tanks are ok if numbers
begin with a 1 - nobody should now be using the smaller 9ml black tanks as
they are all way out of date.

My comments.
   1. Many thanks for the tip about those nos.
   2. For those who have had problems with long term storage of cartridges
with water based inks, it may be worth trying storing them, unopened, in
sealed Freezer containers, which have a container of water.

Regards.
