No. Acorns prior to the A5000 didn't have bidirectional ports.

Using the handshaking lines. But that's not the same as transferring
DATA from the printer to the computer. This is useful for obtaining
status information about the printer.

They use bidiretional printer ports. If you don't have one, then
you'll have to use a serial line. If you have an ECP port, it'll go
like s**t off a shovel, in optimal conditions faster than Ethernet!
