What an odd statement. The pinboard is extremely useful for creating the
environment for a particular project. In fact, having so many projects with
different requirements has made me write a pinboard control program (which I
may put on my site sometime) so I can modify/save/add backdrop/switch
between pinboards with ease. Tailoring pinboards to projects/subjects saves
an enormous amount of time since one doesnt have to keep trundling down the
hard disk tree to find whatever. It's true I use a 1024 x 768 screen res,
but I have used pinboards to great effect before this size was available.
One finds that there are certain areas of the pinboard which are suited to
icons that will be accessed frequently, and others which one can use for
rarely accessed icons (but still things that are bloody useful and probably
well hidden on the hard disk).

Having loads of windows open (and therefore covering the major part of the
pinboard most of the time) is not an efficient way of working, in fact it
denotes more accurately someone who 'clearly isn't using their computer
properly'.
