Is this an Acorn compatible modem?
#259

Has anyone had any experience of using the Electronic Frontier XL336EV (or similar)
modem with an Acorn A4 or A5000 computer?
This is a modem that was recommended by Demon in their "Dispatches" magazine some
time ago, but I don't remember if it's use was limited to PC's.
TIA

No direct experiance, but you can use any (Hayes) compatible modem
without fear. Unless the one you cite is one of those stupid
WinModem things (I don't think it is), that is.

Or its internal...
You need to make sure its an external one, too.

Melanie:

The EF XL336IV internal, which I have, works a treat to Demon
(in a PC). I *think* your code means that it is an external, in
which case one would expect it to work with any computer supporting
 16550A or similar ports.

Why don't you mail EF about it? support@elecfron.com; or
 browse http://www.elecfron.com. Phone is 0118 981 1600.

Try having a look at SupraExpress 33.6i... I used that with my A5000 for
about six months - no problems what so ever.

Hayes I'd stay WELL away from those. (Compatible-yes, HAYES-NO)

The Hayes modem and my A5000 did NOT get on well!!

Trust me.... too much frustration!!

BBC-B!
