ECU takes up far too much space :-)

That may sound silly (esp with the :-) after it) but what about
in spreadsheets, where you are using currency and set the default
leading character(s) of a cell to contain the currency symbol?
They /can/ be set up to display 'ECU' but on many spreadsheets
this genuinely would take up too much space.

<nostalgia>
With the old text based systems of yesteryear, we could simply
make printers do C<backspace>= and use a nondescript char on
screen. Sigh....
</nostalgia>

Now someone will tell me there /is/ a way to do this using the
current system :-)

... One good turn deserves a telling off.
