Mmmm, Argo Emailed me earlier this month that I should be monitoring
the NEWS.dial.pipex.com server as the other servers
(NEWSNEWS.dial.pipex.com and FLEECE.argonet.co.uk) were not reliable.
I monitored them ALL anyway ;-) (see my tagline - not random) which is
how I retrieved a large number of /missing articles/ , some up to a
week old. I stuck with NEWNEWS, as NEWS was chronically lagging more
than 6 hours behind NEWNEWS.
Also Telnet NEWS... gave me "423 Bad article numbers" but
Telnet NEWNEWS... produced all the /missing articles/ (See below).

Interesting. How could I have found out instead of reading it here
after the event? Reply by Email perhaps?
BTW the problem with the a.a n-groups has not manifested itself since
15 Jul but the server Aliases keep changing weekly (plug-bore-soap).
I'm currently on NEWS (soap.)
I trust that I may be permitted to post an earlier (edited) a.a.v article
here. Xposted to a.a.v, followup set to c.s.a.m.

Telnet procedure posted to a.a.v "Good service"

If anybody has a chronic loss of News, I'd suggest change of server from
news.dial.pipex.com to newnews.dial.pipex.com or vice versa.
Reset next article numbers in <!Newsagent.Subscribe> to, say, the
10 Jul 00:25 position. Mine were:
10 Jul 00:25 13 Jul 14:30
a.a.a:3563 :3595
a.a.m:5022 :5063
a.a.v:19353 :19433
a.zfc:9340 :9473
c.s.a.m:62487 :62626
c.s.a.p:24393 :24499
Reset "Preferences.Expire history" to 14 days
"Max.art. to fetch from group" to say 200
Don't debatch after downloading but open the <Apps.News> file and note
the downloaded article numbers. If it is of interest, post here.
I looked on Telnet this morning for missing articles.
Found a couple on the "news.." (soap.) server but most produced the
message "423 Bad article number". Then to make doubly sure I looked
on "newnews.." (plug) and lo and behold: most of the missing articles
came up.
articles NOT recovered by 13 Jul 14:30
