Yep, sure have.

Err, I don't think you want to do it quite the way I've done it, somehow...
it's a wee bit weird, you see. Anyway, to do it yourself, you'll want a the
serial block drivers (!SerialDev), a serial buffer module to keep down those
overruns, either a SLIP or PPP driver and any client / daemon software you
wish to run. A copy of !SLIPDial will automate the process as much as poss.
When the machine boots, bring up your TCP/IP stack with just the lo0
interface configured, up and running. You can test it by pinging 127.0.0.1;
you should get a response, if you don't, worry!
You can't bring up the SLIPor PPP interfaces before you have authenticated
yourself to Demon, because if you did, the SLIP or PPP driver would claim the
serial port and you'de have no way of telling your modem to dial etc etc...
This is where SLIPDial comes in; a SLIPDial script can set the modem speed,
phone Demon, send your username, password and protocol, and then hand control
over to a SLIP or PPP driver.
Of the two, PPP is probably easier. With PPP you just try to bring up a PPP
interface (eg ppp0) and the driver will do most of the hard work for you. If
you're lucky you can get it to assign itself an IP address, and update your
routeing table automatically :-) Otherwise you'll be messing about with
ifconfig and route commands.
When you want to hang up, just kill the SLIP or PPP interface; SLIPDial will
notice that your line is closed and can launch some apps.
The Demon script supplied with !SLIPDial will do most of this for you, but
you'll probably have to mess about a bit to get it to work well; IIRC it was
designed for use with !TCPIP.
To keep the length of this down I've skipped the actual detail, if you want
it, e-mail me...
Cheers,
Pat.
