I've had a number of queries over the past few days about Groups
freezing at "Retrieving subscribed groups" so here is the problem
and the solution.

For some reason (dodgy newgrouping?) a blank line has appeared in the
newgroups file. This can be found in !NewsDir.newsbase.newgroups
(or thereabouts). Try deleting the blank line and running Groups again.

I can't tell offhand whether it is a Groups or Newsbase problem
(probably the former, in which case it will be fixed shortly).
