There have been many postings on this topic, and the above was picked more or less at random. Like all radio amateurs throughout the World, I log and timestamp everything in GMT, or Universal Co-ordinated Time as we now call it to keep the French happy - they always resented GMT and didn't recognize it officially for a long time. If everyone logged in local time, it would things hideously complicated, for reasons which I won't bore you with. So, everything in this 'shack' runs UTC! No problems with timezones etc., but I am occasionally an hour late for appointments in the summer. :-) Presumably UTC stands for Universal Temps Co-ordinatee or something like that; I always was lousy at French language. In radio datacomms, you sometimes see GMT/BST represented by the letter "z", eg 19:00z, and I am told this is a reference to the Zero Meridian, which of course passes through Greenwich. So now you know. What you will do with this new-found knowledge I cannot say! I know it's April 1st, but this is *not* a windup. '73' as we radio amateurs say, for reasons lost in obscurity. -- Richard Sterry, Wakefield, UK E-mail: richard@waveg.demon.co.uk AX25: G4BLT@GB7WRG.#19.GBR.EU
