Don't think so. I only tried it for a while, and then went back to allowing
the modem to run as fast as it was able to negotiate.

It looks as though network death is actually a problem with Demon's network,
and not the modems. At the moment I think they have disabled VJ (?) compression
on the test number to see if this has any effect, although one person has
already reported a case of network death.

I dunno ...

Looks as though my local exchange went severely wrong this evening, all the
numbers I dialled gave error beeps/messages of varying descriptions, and all
the 'phone boxes within walking distance were dead. Still, it's back now.
