Couldn't this stuff be done using impulse? ChangeFSI and Translator would have methods like gif->sprite and ones to set their options. When Paint failed torecognise a file type (say a gif) it would send out requests for any gif translators, then send the options to the chosen task followed by all the (gif) data. Translator would then chug away, and send a new sprite command to paint followed by the (sprite) data. Of course if two gif->sprite methods existed, a choice would have to be made my the user, and the options would have to be set somewhere along the line. And something really clever would have to be done about applications that could do the translation but werent loaded at the time. just my worthless ideas, martin.
