I know it is possible to set up an Archimedes to receive mail and news. I
believe it is possible to arrange matters for this to happen where the arch.
does not have a direct connection to the JANET/Internet e.g. over a dial up
line of some kind.
Could someone please confirm that this is indeed the case and if so could
someone send me (or post here) the complete instructions for how to do this.
I realise that various pieces of software are required but I don't know
exactly which ones (KA9Q? RUCP?) or where I can get them from (I know some
are on the Newcastle info-server).
I'm sure this information would be of interest to others too.
Mik

If you can arrange a UUCP feed, then you want rucp and readnews (both from newky, except I think rucp has been mis-named uucp. If you have a tcp/ip feed (as available from demon internet services for a tenner a month for dial-up access), then you need Jonathan Naylor's ka9q and BM package. Note that this has been subsequently modified by Anthony Frost (vulch@kerno.demon.co.uk) to add a news download - this version is available by ftp from demon.co.uk in /pub/archimedes and on Arcade BBS. BM is the mailer, though you may prefer to use Anthony Frost's ReaderS (10 pounds careware) - you'll need this to read news. In the near future, you may see programs which let you use readnews with ka9q. > I'm sure this information would be of interest to others too. Maybe not, it'll either cost 'em a tenner a month + phone bills, or they'll have to wheedle a uucp feed from their system admins. --Paul +-------------------------+------------------------------------------------+ | Paul L.
