I have recently inherited a number of photos, ranging in age from 20 to 100 years old, of my family. Since these photos are priceless, I am trying to digitize them so that I can have them on disk for archival reasons. I have experimented with using a VIDI-24 Framegrabber, however, the quality of the scan is not as high as I want. I have also experimented with a flatbed scanner at a local photocopy store, which gave me the quality, but it is expensive. In either case, I find that due to peculiarities in the photos, considerable touch-up is required. I am looking for some sort of image processor software which will allow me to touch up those photos, at a reasonable cost. It must be friendly for a novice, reasonably powerful, and CyberGraphx compatible. I have looked at Studio II, GFXLAB, and a couple of others, however, none of them seem to fit my needs. I have PhotoGenics Lite, which was included with my CV64, however, the Lite version seems to have some substantial problems with it (does not release memory, does not support virtual memory, is a memory-hog, and gurus). I was looking over an issue of Amazing Amiga (1994) the other day, and they had a review of ImageFX, ADPro, and ImageMaster in it. Of all of them, Imagemaster seemed to be the most cost-effective. However, I would like opinions on any/all Image processing/Paint programs before I go much further. So, what I want, is opinions of solutions to my problem, which are cost-effective and powerful enough to get the job done. Please respond here, or to BEGOODMAN@DELPHI.COM Thanks Bruce Goodman BEGOODMAN@DELPHI.COM

Imagemaster is an excellent program for the photo touchup but does not support Cybergraphics. I use it with the opal board. ImageFX does work with cyber and is also perfect for your needs, but it is around $200 as opposed to $69 for Imagemaster. Photogenics is in-between those prices and also works with Cybergraphics, though it does not have anywhere near the features of ImageFX, it should be sufficient for simple photo-retouching. Any of the three, will require much ram (ImageFX does support virtual memory) for 24-bit 2400dpi scanning of photographs.
