Grey pixels in images

I have a -very- annoying problem in that when using web browsers, often images
are riddled with grey pixels. This totally ruins the image. It happens even on
screens with just 4-5 different colours. I'm using a MUI 3.3 public screen in 256
colours, and have tried the JPEG and JFIF datatypes on aminet.
(JPEG ends up giving 100s of "Colour conversion not supported" requests)
