Setting Up A4000

This covers a number of areas where I am seeking help/advice...

Assuming an A-4000 class computer...

How do I do 16 bit pro audio editing? Does it require a specific sound
card/software?

How do I hook it into an Ethernet coax network with PCs running
Microsoft Network on Windows 95? What hardware? What drivers?

What bout a cd-rom? Assuming the A-4000 has a scsi port, can you hook a
standard PC style scsi cd unit into it, or does it require something
more-Amiga-specific?

I have a new WACOM tablet I'd like to move over to the Amiga. What are
the odds I can make it work?

What's the easiest and most cost effective way to boost the
speed/performance of an A-4000?

Thanks to all for their help!

A4000 desktops don't have built-in SCSI, but I think Towers do. Use the 5
1/4" bay for CD-ROM drives.

Either get a graphics card or an '060

yes. for highest quality, you can do it one of two ways. you can get the
Sunrize Industries AD516 card/software combo, or you can get a prelude or
delfina aounds card with the upcoming ProstationAudio. both setups will
allow for multitrack hi-fi editing of audio. sunrize is our of business.
prostation audio is looking pretty nice and will be very supported in the
future.

get a zorro ethernet card (expensive). use amitcp or miami, i think,
assuming your network is using TCP/IP.

a4k has IDE ports, and a standard pc unit will work (but won't fit in the
box - doh!).

Sure it will.. I've got a Plextor.. not a bit Amiga specific. But it is a
tight squeeze.. in mine the powerplugs to the power supply and CD drive
overlap and the CD drive has a minisculely slight tilt down. And there's an
IDE driver on Aminet that theoretically lets you use CDs with IDE ports.

I STRONGLY reccommend CacheCDFS (included in the IDEfix archive)! It's the
only Amiga CDFS that supports the Win95 Joliette format. I had both the other
competitors (not including the brain dead C= thing) hang when accessing discs
made for WIn95. This handles it flawlessly. ‰
